Our fifth class has also acted as an introduction to
assistive technology assessment models. During this class we were asked to
research different assistive technology assessment models to gain a greater
understanding of how assistive technology is selected for a student in need of
support. My findings will be discussed in a future blog post.

Fifth Class
With our fifth class came the conclusion of the webinar
presentations. Angela, Lacee, and Christine presentation entitled, “New Apps
for Learning Disabilities,” provided great information on apps that can be used
with students in resource settings or in the classroom. The group discussed apps
such as, Paperport Notes, Book Creator, and Prizmo. I took many ideas away from
the presentation in regards to using the Book Creator app in my teaching
practice. Book Creator can be used to create word lists and a dictionary of
completed word lists. This would be a great tool for resource classrooms,
learning centres, and LD classrooms. This app will allow teachers and students
to upload documents to Dropbox and export files as PDF. Another benefit of this
app when working with students with learning disabilities is that there is an
in app voice recording for struggling readers. This group also gave a great
introduction to Prizmo. Prizmo is an app that can be used for reading and
accessing information. One feature of this app that I liked is that it allows
the user to use their iPad or iPhone as a photo scanner that makes it possible
to scan any document using the iPad or iPhone camera.
